Emily Kiss

We are citizens of the world
Bound to a place every being calls their home
There are no borders where nature found beauty
Rivers, lakes, and sea connecting every life
Where I live, you may live
Where I breathe, you may breathe
For I am you and you are me
There is no winner where someone else loses
To win is to love and live
Thrive and sleep, without fear
We eat the fruit another once grew
With hope and care
A dream of a better place
They planted the seed
Of the freedom we were born with
We live where once one lived
Who spoke in tongues
Foreign and beautiful
They protected us
Not knowing we would come
They fought for us
Not knowing whether we would ever be
We must protect them
Not knowing if they’ll come
We must fight for them
Even if we don’t know their names
Because we know that they are
We were blessed with the privilege to rest;
Dumb luck.
I fight for those unable to fight
I speak for those who were silenced
Helpless and vulnerable I stand
Fractured and harmed I stand
Weak and broken I stand
For everyone who can‘t.
